Pakistan's prime minister, Imran Khan, said the suffering Afghans have experienced over the past forty years is something no other country and nation has yet known. At the inaugural session of the 48th Council of Foreign Ministers of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (Oic), Khan urged the world to lift sanctions and recognize the taliban government to bring stability to Afghanistan.Imran Khan added the world must help Afghans, who are living in poverty, in order to prevent the spread of terrorism in the region.
The Oic 48th session began in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Tuesday, March 22 and its still going on. The session opened under the title of "Building Partnerships for Unity, Justice and Development" and Afghanistan is one of the important topic to be discussed. Secretary-General elect of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (Oic) Hissein Brahim Taha said the organization addresses the world to create stability in Afghanistan. At the Oic meeting are participating the foreign ministers of the 57 members from Islamic countries.
According to Pakistani media, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, also stressed the importance of Afghanistan. Qureshi added nobody must be allowed to jeopardize stability in Afghanistan. Qureshi said the taliban must be encouraged to fight against Isis-K, and a greater effort is needed to oppose Ttp and Al-Qaeda.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amir Khan Muttaqi, did not attend the session, instead the taliban are represented by Akbar Azimi, political head of the taliban's foreign ministry, and Sardar Muhammad Shokaib, Afghanistan's charge d'affaires in Pakistan. The taliban did not comment on the session nor explained why Muttaqi did not participate.
“The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (Oic) and the Islamic Development Bank Group signed the Charter of the Fund for Humanitarian Assistance to the Afghan People in a ceremony attended by the Pakistani Foreign Minister on the eve of the Oic 48 Cfm in Islamabad, Pakistan,” Oic tweeted before starting the session.
In its extraordinary session on December 19, 2021, the organization established a fund for Afghanistan, and appointed a representative for the country.
