Una adolescenza complicata, segnata da episodi di bullismo e da liti continue con madre e patrigno che non accettavano il suo orientamento sessuale. L'israeliano Michael Ben David è uno dei protagonisti dell'Eurovision Song Contest 2022 e in patria è una grande star: vincitore dell'edizione di X Factor del suo Paese, è diventato presto un'icona del movimento Lgbtq+ per il modo in cui affronta certe tematiche nelle sue canzoni e per la sincerità con cui racconta la sua difficile esperienza di vita.
Il brano con cui partecipa all'ESC è un perfetto esempio del suo impegno per i diritti: I.M. è infatti il racconto di un ragazzo gay che parla dell'importanza di accettare se stessi e la difficoltà di vivere la propria condizione. È un brano autobiografico, che si ispira alla sua infanzia. Quando era bambino è stato vittima di bullismo a causa della sua voce, ma oggi che è adulto ha ormai perdonato i suoi ‘aguzzini’.
